[Our specialities]

Example applications

We model your constraints, build the engine that calculates the best possible solution and integrate it into your software, however many rules it has to respect
Team and resource allocation

Team and resource allocation

Allocation engines assign each task to the right person and the right equipment, respecting everyone's skills, authorisations, rest periods and availability
Route and field service planning

Route and field service planning

Routing engines work out who goes where and in what order, respecting appointment windows and real travel times, whether it's a delivery or a job at a customer's site
Scheduling and meeting deadlines

Scheduling and meeting deadlines

Scheduling engines set the order and timing of every operation so you meet your deadlines, respecting mandatory sequences, set-up times and periods of unavailability
Capacity sizing and utilisation

Capacity sizing and utilisation

Capacity engines spread the workload across your service desks, time slots, rooms or equipment, so every resource runs at full capacity and the load stays manageable everywhere
Territory design and site location

Territory design and site location

Territory engines define your sales or service territories and where your sites should be, balancing the workload between teams and cutting the distances travelled
Pricing and budget allocation

Pricing and budget allocation

Allocation engines distribute a capacity or a budget across your offerings, channels or projects, to get the best return from what you have to allocate

Funeral servicesGroupe OGF

Planning staff and vehicles for 120,000 funerals a year

Groupe OGF, France's leading funeral services provider, organises thousands of staff and vehicle journeys across the country every day. This planning used to be done by hand, area by area. It took up entire days, with no guarantee that people and equipment were being put to best use. Galadrim built the combinatorial optimisation engine integrated into OGF's business software. It combines linear programming and heuristics to produce a complete plan in a few minutes. Each area manager receives a proposed allocation to approve or adjust, instead of building it from scratch.

Railway worksVinci Construction

Allocating staff, plant and locomotives across fifty railway worksites

Every day, Vinci Construction allocates staff, construction plant and locomotives to keep its railway operations running. The rules pile up: rest periods, whether an operative is authorised to drive a given machine, the sequence of journeys from one site to the next. Galadrim built the planning engine integrated into its internal tool, which handles every worksite in a single calculation. A site manager opens the tool in the morning and finds the team schedule already built and compliant with every rule, ready for sign-off.

Industrial logisticsGroupe Blondel

Keeping a shipyard's lifting equipment working at full capacity

Groupe Blondel runs logistics at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard, where cranes, lifts and goods hoists set the pace for the whole site. The challenge was to use them at full capacity while allocating teams and tracking package flows, without creating queues in front of an overloaded machine. Galadrim built the application that brings all these constraints together. A model predicts upcoming package volumes to anticipate the real workload. Site supervisors book their lifting slots from the interface. The allocation algorithm then builds the schedules, respecting working hours and operator–machine compatibility. Every employee receives a personalised schedule each morning.

Health and social care softwareSadies

Generating care staff rotas for a health and social care facility in seconds

Sadies develops the software that health and social care facilities use to organise their care teams' rotas. The rules are demanding: 24/7 continuity of care, regulatory staffing ratios, statutory rest periods and the qualifications each post requires. These rotas used to be built by hand and took up a great deal of nurse managers' time. Galadrim built the planning engine integrated into the product. In a few seconds, it calculates a rota that respects all these rules and shares shifts fairly among care staff.

[Our approach]

How we put an optimisation engine into production

  • Scoping
    Step 01

The decision to support and the goal to optimise

We start from the decision the engine has to produce. Then we agree with you on what it should improve: cost, lead time, distance or utilisation rate. That goal becomes the benchmark against which we compare your current way of working.
  • Business rules
    Step 02

    Gathering and modelling your constraints

We gather your rules from the people who make the decisions today, including the ones nobody has ever written down. Then we translate them into mathematical constraints. This step decides whether the result will be accepted on the ground.
  • Modelling
    Step 03

Choosing the method and writing the model

We choose the approach that suits the size and nature of your problem (linear programming, constraint programming or metaheuristics), then we write the model. The constraints you have signed off are respected by design.
  • Calibration
    Step 04

    Benchmarking against your current practice

We test the calculated solution against the one your teams would have produced, on real cases. When two goals conflict, we agree the priorities with you. You measure the gain before go-live.
  • Integration
    Step 05

The engine built into your business software

We connect the engine to the tool your teams already use, with a secure, robust link to your existing IT systems. The proposed solution appears on their usual screen, ready to approve or adjust.
  • Long-term support
    Step 06

Monitoring gaps and updating the rules

We monitor the gaps between the calculated solution and what actually happened, and we update the constraints as your organisation changes.

[Why Galadrim?]

Why do companies trust us with their optimisation engines?

Proven expertise

800+ clients supported, 170+ experts and 9 years' experience building AI products, with optimisation engines in live use at organisations in services, industry and the public sector.

Mathematical expertise that's hard to find

Constraint programming, combinatorial optimisation, linear programming and metaheuristics: for several years, we have been writing mathematical models and solving them at the scale of thousands of daily decisions.

Your constraints respected by design

A solution produced by the engine cannot break a rule you have signed off. That is a property of the mathematical model, not something to check after the fact. Your teams review the result instead of policing it.

Auditable, deterministic decisions

Given the same data, the engine always returns the same solution, and every choice is explained by the constraints and goal you agreed. You can justify a decision to senior management, an auditor or employee representatives.

An engine built into your business software

An algorithm delivered on its own is just a demo. We build it into the tool your teams already open every day, so the optimised solution arrives where the work gets done.

[FAQ]

Questions our clients often ask

Your operating rules and access to the data they rely on: reference data on people, resources, skills and availability. We take care of gathering the rules from your teams, the mathematical modelling and scaling the computation for production.
Yes, even the most unusual ones. Every organisation has its own constraints: rest periods, local priorities, affinities between a person and a task. That is exactly what a bespoke model can take into account, whereas off-the-shelf software imposes its own rules.
No. It removes the mechanical, repetitive part of the job. The engine proposes a complete solution. Your teams review it, adjust it when they have information the engine doesn't, and keep control of sign-off.
Yes. The engine is deterministic and auditable: given the same data, it returns the same solution, and every choice is explained by the constraints and goal you signed off. So you can justify a decision to senior management, an auditor or employee representatives.
You do. Code, mathematical models and documentation belong to you with every delivery. The transfer of rights is written into the contract from day one.
